I notice some YouTubers and gameshows suggest they are being generous by offering the potential to win large cash or material prizes to contestants.

However, their expected return from the contest is greater than the prizes.

Is that still generosity?

If I paid a contestant a guaranteed fifty dollars because in doing so I could expect to get one-hundred dollars, would that be generosity?

Is the lottery generosity?

Is paying an employee generosity?
